Chaffee County

Chaffee County is 82% Public Land and Antero Hot Springs sits within the San Isabel National Forest, which creates a recreational playground right in the backyard. The Arkansas River is 10 minutes down Chalk Creek where the fishing and boating are world class. Fishing, whitewater rafting & kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowmobiling and mountaineering are just some of the adventures that await the ambitious vacationer. The legendary Colorado Trail and the Continental Divide Trail are just up the road.

The Sawatch Range that surrounds the cabins is home to alpine lakes, 14ers and miles of scenic trails. The snowmobile trails are endless and well maintained for motorheads or ski touring. Princeton Riding Stables is located just down the road for an exceptional trail ride through local terrain.

If you head west 12 miles from the cabins you’ll find St Elmo, where you can stroll the old boardwalks of this once-booming mining town. A historic Ghost Town, St. Elmo is where 4-wheel drive roads pinwheel in every direction for hiking or jeep adventures.

Salida, Buena Vista & Leadville are only a short drive away and boast art galleries, restaurants, antique shops and museums. Of course, massage and spa treatment along with soaking in the mineral hot spring may be all you need to feel thrilled and exhilarated. We have an excellent therapist available.

The cabins are located on Chalk Creek in the heart of the Collegiate Peaks. Gin clear and swift-moving, Chalk Creek flows directly out of the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness Area. The property sits between Mt. Princeton (14,197′) and Mt Antero (14,269′) in the Sawatch Range, which encompasses eleven of the twenty-five tallest peaks in Colorado. Salida and Buena Vista are both easily accessible from the cabins.

The property is at the entrance to a massive canyon allowing for amazing views, but without the ‘canyon shade’ associated with properties just to the west. The neighbors and canyon are quiet, and the pace is slow. You’ll share the property with owls, eagles, deer and elk.

A quarter-mile downriver is Mt. Princeton Hot Springs with a full-service spa. Here you will have access to WiFi, a restaurant, a water slide (Memorial Day to Labor Day) and a small general store.

Six miles downstream, Chalk Creek enters the Arkansas River at the entrance to Brown’s Canyon. Known for its whitewater rafting and fly fishing, the Arkansas River is world class. Most any mountain activity is available to you just outside your door, and it is unbelievably beautiful.

The Colorado Trail and the Continental Divide Trail are just up the road. Twelve miles up, at the head of the canyon, sits St. Elmo, Colorado’s largest ghost town and the trailhead for winter and summer adventures. Monarch Ski & Snowboard Area is 45 minutes southwest, Summit County and Vail ski areas are about 1 hr 30 min north.

After taking in some of these activities, coming ‘home’ to Antero Hot Springs for a soak in your private hot spring pool is a dream come true.

The Colorado mountain town of Salida sits in the middle of the state, literally in the “Heart of the Rockies,” about 25 minutes from our cabins. Our town is a welcoming retreat for everyone, from the solo outdoors adventure seeker to couples yearning for a romantic escape or families who wish to ‘Play and Stay’ in the glorious Rocky Mountains. Here one can be inspired by the endless mountain activities, ample opportunities to shop, and just plain old fun times for families.

Buena Vista

In case you are unfamiliar, Buena Vista means ‘beautiful view’ in Spanish. And the name truly says it all. Resting at roughly 8,000 feet elevation, the town of Buena Vista Colorado is nestled between the majestic Continental Divide to the West and the Fourmile Recreation Area foothills to the East, with the impressive Arkansas River running through town. This understated central Colorado town is a well-kept secret for Colorado outdoor enthusiasts. Check out the unique riverside trail systems at the end of Main Street on the Arkansas River. These trails not only cross the river and access other seemingly endless trail systems, but also link the river park to the newly developed part of Buena Vista downtown called South Main. The true beauty of Buena Vista is its laid-back atmosphere and unobstructed mountain views. Grab a drink and relax on a sunbaked deck, watching clouds come over the legendary Collegiate Peaks.
